Morning Roar: Watch the Saints shopping
By Michael Rothstein
Good morning and ROOOOAAARRR!!!!
The New Orleans Saints are apparently shopping some of their veteran players and it would not be stunning if the Lions were one of the teams that might be listening.
The reasoning behind that -- especially when it comes to receiver Lance Moore -- is multifaceted. First, Detroit needs help at receiver and Moore has been productive in the past and shown he can bounce back from mediocre years like the 37-catch, 457-yard season he had in 2013.
More importantly, and this might be why Detroit would show any interest, is Moore's familiarity with new Lions offensive coordinator Joe Lombardi and the offense he plans to run. Detroit has no players other than Reggie Bush and Joique Bell who have familiarity with what the Saints have done in the past and what the Lions could do in the future.
Moore would provide that and be a veteran presence in the locker room -- something that was lost when Nate Burleson was released.
So while the deal would make sense from an on-field and locker room perspective, the financials could be an issue. Moore is due to make $5,068,750 against the cap in 2014 according to ESPN's Roster Management System and that could be cost prohibitive for a team like the Lions that has cap issues.
And now, a look around the Interwebs in search of Lions news:
