2015 Detroit Lions preseason schedule

The regular-season schedule won't be released until later this month, but the Detroit Lions announced Thursday who the team will play in exhibition games.

The Lions will open the preseason against the New York Jets in Todd Bowles' debut as a head coach on a date between Aug. 13 and Aug. 17. Then the Lions will travel to Washington in Week 2 of the preseason (Aug. 20-24) and Jacksonville in Week 3 before closing the exhibition season with a game against Buffalo at Ford Field on either Sept. 3 or Sept. 4.

Dates and times have yet to be announced, although the Lions will face the Jaguars in a nationally televised game on Aug. 28 at 8 p.m. The game will be on CBS.

One oddity for Detroit is not having Cleveland on the preseason schedule. The Lions opened with the Browns -- the team in closest proximity to them -- last preseason and have played the past 14 preseasons, according to the team's official website.

The teams cite stadium conflicts for keeping that game from taking place this season.

This will be the second straight year the Lions will face Jacksonville in the third preseason game. The third game is typically the most important since it is considered the dress-rehearsal game for the regular season that begins two weeks later.
