Abel Kirui to defend title at worlds

The Olympic silver medalist will also be running the London Marathon.
Even though the Kenyans didn't perform as expected at this year's Olympics in London, that doesn't mean they aren't a force to be reckoned with.
According to an article on the NZ Week Web site, Abel Kirui and Florence Kiplagat have confirmed their intentions to defend their titles at the World Championships in Athletics in Moscow next year.
Kirui had been the favorite to win in London in August, but he ended up taking silver. Uganda's Stephen Kiprotuch upset the field the win gold.
"I have started training and will be moving to camp next week," Kirui said. "The target is to run in London in April and then reserve the energy for the World Championships in August. The world marathon title is important and I must defend it. I will shelve any other plans to focus on this one."
Kirui, 30, is also possibly looking at the 2016 Olympic Games, but remains realistic about his chances of winning gold there. "All is not lost, Rio in 2016 is still a possibility and I cannot shut out myself saying I will not be able to make it then," he said. "But this is Kenya and four years in marathon running is a long time. There are many younger runners coming through and it is getting tougher every day."
