Forecast for Aggie RB Tarik Cohen bright
By Donald Hunt
Tarik Cohen wasted little time attracting national attention in his first season at North Carolina A&T. As a freshman running back for the Aggies, Cohen led the MEAC in rushing, gaining 1,148 yards with eight touchdowns. The 5-foot-8, 170-pounder averaged 5.9 yards a carry while garnering first-team all-conference honors.
Cohen’s exploits earned him MEAC Rookie of the Year honors and national acclaim as a candidate for the Jerry Rice Award, which goes to the country’s top FCS freshman. While Cohen didn’t receive that particular award, he cemented his status as one of the nation’s best young gridders. “He can be special,” asserts coach Rod Broadway, whose Aggies finished 7-4 last season. “He has the whole package. He has speed, change of direction and knowledge.”
Cohen will get an opportunity to showcase his skills on the national stage in the MEAC/SWAC Challenge Presented by Disney game, which will feature North Carolina A&T and Alabama A&M on Sunday, Aug. 31. This year marks the game's 10th anniversary.
Broadway will have the best seat in the house: “He's good. He just continues to get better as he grows. He's going to be outstanding.”
