What's Better Than A National Title? Ice Cream, Of Course!

Penn State has a long history of athletic success, owning 73 national titles in a variety of sports. And while that's, you know, impressive and all, there's apparently an even greater honor one can receive in State College.

No, not the Rhodes Scholarship, I'm talking about a "hall of fame" ice cream flavor at the on-campus creamery.

In the past 20 years, there's been just one person to nab such an achievement -- Russ Rose. The legendary women's volleyball coach, who looks for his seventh national title tonight against BYU, has been at the helm of the program for 36 years and is an iconic figure on campus. Berkey Creamery released "Russ 'digs' Roseberry" in the spring and it has since become one of the creamery's most popular flavors. Made from black raspberry puree, whole strawberries, strawberry sauce, red raspberry sauce and pure chocolate in a vanilla base, it sounds like pretty much the most delicious ice cream flavor named after a volleyball coach ever.

According to the Penn State athletic department, Rose was offered the distinction a few years ago but turned it down because he doesn't like personal accolades. But after he won his sixth title last season, he finally obliged. I'm guessing the sweet teeth and taste buds in the area are forever grateful for this.

Obviously I had to see this delectable treat for myself and lucky for me, the team brought some to Oklahoma City. It was as delicious as I had hoped.

Pop quiz. Where is the one place you haven't seen Mo'ne Davis?

The cover of Sports Illustrated? Nope. The White House? Wrong again. The World Series? Strike three.

The correct answer? The basketball court.

Earlier this month, the star of the Little League World Series who has said she dreams of playing basketball for Connecticut, made her high school's girls' varsity basketball team as an eighth-grader.

Now, thanks to MaxPreps, we can see her in action with Philadelphia's Springside Chestnut Hill Academy -- crossovers, layups, floaters and all.

Pop quiz. What is the one thing Mo'ne Davis can't do? Let us know when you figure out an answer to that one.

Almost exactly a year ago, LPGA star Paula Creamer posted one of the coolest engagement announcements of all time after a skydiving adventure.

And today, we get this.

Good morning from paradise.... Mrs. Heath... Honeymoon @beachbunnyswimwear #yesistillhavewhitefeet #golferproblems

Seems that Creamer and new husband Derek Heath, a pilot from California, tied the knot over the weekend and are now busy honeymooning in some beautiful spot somewhere -- pale feet and all.

Here’s hoping she didn’t bring her clubs.

Ever since she was a little kid, Victoria Azarenka said she dreamed of doing big things at the Australian Open.

Like shagging balls!

While the two-time Aussie Open champion clearly had desire to spare, it's her form that is striking. Bowling, anyone?

The Weird Ways The USWNT Preps For A Big Game

Currently in Brazil for the International Tournament of Brasilia, the U.S. women’s soccer team is gearing up to face Argentina tonight in its final match of group play. The team is looking to rally after a draw with China last week and a 3-2 loss to Brazil over the weekend.

So, one would assume the players are getting focused and finding ways to get in the zone ahead of the matchup, right?

Well, something like that. Here’s a small sampling of the, um, unconventional methods the women are using to prepare for the game.

Warning: These women are elite athletes. While these tactics might work for them, they most likely won’t for you. Don’t try these at home, kids.

Megan Rapinoe contemplated whether she needed Botox on Twitter.

She then teamed up with Sydney Leroux as they worked on their best model poses.

Carli Lloyd reminisced about “The Newsroom” series finale.

And Kelley O’Hara decided to bring the holiday spirit to the team’s gorgeous beachside resort with homemade snow.

It's pretend snowing in Brazil

Brittney Griner is really, really bored. I know this because she posted multiple posts on various social media accounts telling the world she was bored. So that’s pretty good evidence if you ask me. Clearly trying to kill time and the monotony from her living quarters in China, Griner even made a pretty hilarious Instagram video for her fans.

Bored out this world!

A video posted by BrittneyGriner (@brittneygriner) on

Not mad about it, Brittney. Not mad at all. Although I think we could all benefit from some, you know, lighting of any kind next time around. Thanks in advance.

It’s been a whole six days since Caroline Wozniacki has done something noteworthy, so you’re probably in full-on panic mode right now and are getting ready to call the authorities, or at call least the bigwigs of all the major social media companies to make sure her accounts are still working. Thankfully, you can now rest easy.

Wozniacki is back -- and seemingly totally fine -- and even has a new Self magazine photo spread to share. The tennis star posted pictures from the upcoming issue on her Instagram account on Tuesday. Obviously, she looks gorgeous and healthy and happy and everything else you would expect from a segment in a magazine dedicated to beauty, health, fitness and happiness.

Wozniacki even shared a behind-the-scenes video from the shoot with her followers. It will definitely make you smile, for reasons you’ll understand momentarily.

Shawn Johnson may have retired from competitive gymnastics, but that doesn’t mean she’s stopped incorporating her ridiculously impressive moves into her everyday life. Tuesday morning, the 2008 Olympic gold medalist showed off her new workout move… and it will likely make you feel pretty lousy about your 20 minutes on the elliptical.

Now let’s just hope Johnson finds a way to showcase these skills on the upcoming season of “Celebrity Apprentice.” Her employment status could probably benefit from it.

It’s pretty much an established fact that Michelle Wie is cooler than the rest of us. Between winning golf tournaments, recreating Beyonce videos, travelling the world and gracing magazine covers, it’s basically Wiezy’s world and the rest of us are just living in it.

Now home for the holidays in Hawaii, Wie already has made good use of her time in paradise. After shooting a guest spot on “Hawaii Five-0” last week (NO BIG DEAL OR ANYTHING), the U.S. Women’s Open champ showed off her yoga/gymnastics/CrossFit moves -- and new custom Nike sneakers -- on Monday.

Julie Kramer, a 23-year-old who is battling stage 4 synovial sarcoma, was a guest on “The Ellen Degeneres Show” on Monday. The Tabernacle, New Jersey, native had inspired the talk-show host with her positive attitude. After chatting about her courageous fight against cancer, Ellen presented Kramer with a $10,000 check from Target.

Awesome, right?

Somehow, it gets even better. Knowing that Kramer is a devoted Philadelphia Phillies fan, Ellen had Chase Utley, Kramer’s favorite player, waiting backstage. He shocked Kramer and the crowd when he came out with a basket full of team gear. Her stunned reaction is pretty much the greatest thing you’ll see today.

Teddy Bear Shih Tzu Trades In His Treadmill For A Sled

Last month an adorable Shih Tzu, dressed as a teddy bear, named Munchkin won over our hearts and dreams by awkwardly walking on a treadmill. And just when you were looking for another Internet animal to cure your cubicle blues, Munchkin made his triumphant return with a sledding video. It’s guaranteed to be the most cuteness you’ll see in 10 seconds all day.

Note to Lifetime: This was significantly more entertaining than “Grumpy Cat’s Worst Christmas Ever.” Perhaps you should consider Munchkin in your next animal-themed holiday feature.

'SNL' Star Hails Staten Island's Girls' Basketball Player Of Week

Casey Davidson, a senior at St. Joseph by-the-Sea (Staten Island, New York), averaged 23.7 points in three games last week and was named SILive.com’s high school girls’ basketball Player of the Week. And while that’s pretty cool on its own, the honor even garnered the attention of a “Saturday Night Live” star.

Yes! It’s true! But it’s not exactly what you think. It turns out Casey is the younger sister of comedian and “Weekend Update” regular Pete Davidson. The proud brother tweeted his support with an enthusiastic post on Monday.

So that’s pretty adorable. He then revealed an entertaining story about a recent game of 1-on-1 between the two. It turns out exactly as you’re probably expecting.

Ahh, the old “But I was injured!” excuse. We’ve all been there. “Saturday Night Live” stars are just like us!

Sydney Leroux + Dom Dwyer = U.S. World Cup Title By 2038

Move over, Alex Morgan and Servando Carrasco. It looks like there’s a new soccer power couple in town. On Monday morning, Sydney Leroux made her relationship with Sporting Kansas City star Dom Dwyer social-media official, via a gorgeous beach photo on Instagram, NATCH.

They’re both ridiculously good at soccer and all but you’re honestly just going to be struck right now by how beautiful they both are. Consider this your warning.

So happy to have this guy in my life even if he's prettier than me. #caesarandkoba

Of course, no one completely overreacted on Twitter about the pairing and their future children or anything.

To recap: The two have been public with their relationship for all of three hours and their non-existent children have already made the World Cup rosters. No pressure, guys.

How Serena Williams Morphed Into Madonna After A 6-Mile Road Race

December, 15, 2014
Dec 15

PM ET

Caroline Wozniacki may hold the title for tennis’ most decorated runner after her impressive New York City Marathon, but Serena Williams gave her bestie a run (get it?) for her money over the weekend. Not only did the reigning US Open champ participate in the Ultimate Run Sunday in South Beach, but she actually hosted the event. YOU WERE SAYING, WOZ?

With proceeds going to Serena’s foundation benefitting families affected by violent crimes, the day consisted of a 5K, a quarter-marathon (6.55 miles), a team challenge and a kids’ race. Serena successfully completed the quarter-marathon with a time of 1:14:45 and posted a video of her crossing the finish line on Instagram, just in case you didn’t believe her.

Sister Venus didn’t actually run but she did participate in some post-race karaoke action. Joined by their mom and others on stage, Serena and Venus teamed up for “Material Girl” and -- what else? -- “We are Family.” So that was probably worth the price of a race entry by itself.

A good cause, some exercise, a viral-worthy sing-along and South Beach? You DEFINITELY won this weekend, Serena.

Golfer Reveals The Air-Travel Nightmare You Never Even Thought Of

December, 15, 2014
Dec 15

AM ET

Just when you think you’ve heard all the possible horror stories about air travel, someone has to come in and prove that you really, really haven’t. Over the weekend, LPGA golfer and Golf Network personality Paige Mackenzie was on her way to Jamaica for some rest and relaxation when Southwest reportedly forgot to pay its air-space bill to Cuba and the flight was delayed. You know, just a totally normal thing. No big deal or anything.

So that’s a new one. But, as one follower pointed out, it could have been worse.

Thankfully, it appears this story has a happy ending. Mackenize has yet to tweet since Saturday’s delay, so we can assume she finally made it to the Caribbean island and is currently soaking up the sun on a gorgeous beach and has already forgotten about her travel nightmare. Let’s hope her return flight is less dramatic.
