First, I would like to introduce myself. I am Ellen Renfroe, and I am a senior pitcher for the Tennessee Lady Vols. I am from Jackson, Tenn., so I have been bleeding orange since I can remember. I really believe there is no place like Big Orange Country!
I have two awesome sisters, Ivy and Anna, one of whom is currently on the softball team with me. My older sister, Ivy, recently graduated from UT as she finished her softball career as a Lady Vol.
Enough about me. I know you all want to know what is going on in Knoxville with the Lady Vols softball team. We have been able to start off the season strong with wins over Georgia Southern, Northern Colorado, USF and Illinois, to name a few. Each game we have played has presented us with challenges as well as instilled confidence in many of our girls. We are learning more and more about ourselves every time we play.
We also are learning about the personality of our team. Let me tell you, there is never a dull moment! Since we have been on the road, there’s this game we like to play called spotlight. Each night after dinner, someone has to pick out a song and sing it in front of the entire team on the bus. They put their headphones on and sing as loud as they can. It usually turns out to be a good show for all of us. We have had some wonderful performances from Annie Aldrete and Shaliyah Geathers thus far.
Last week, we were able to enjoy a snow day in Knoxville. We woke up on Thursday morning to six inches of snow, which might be more than I have ever seen. Knoxville was like a winter wonderland. Thankfully, we were able to fly out of Knoxville that afternoon to head to Tampa, Fla., where we got to enjoy some warmer weather.
This week, we are all trying to get ahead in our classes and prepare for our long trip to California next week. All of our California girls are beyond excited for that trip! I am pretty sure some of them have had a countdown going for several weeks now.
I think that is about as exciting as it gets right now. Our lives pretty much consist of school, softball, sleeping and eating, and possibly in that order sometimes. I hope you all have enjoyed getting to know about the Lady Vols this week. Go Vols!
