... New York, concrete jungle where dreams are made of
There's nothin' you can't do
Now you're in New York
These streets will make you feel brand new
Big lights will inspire you
Let’s hear it for New York, New York,
(Sung in my best Alicia Keys voice)
All right, everyone, the 2012 U.S. Open is here! I'll be blogging throughout the tournament, giving you an inside look at what's going on.
It's already been crazy busy.
On Saturday I took part in Arthur Ashe Kids' Day. It was incredible to see the stadium full of happy kids, celebrating the game of tennis. I was so pumped up and knew it was going to be a blast. Mindless Behavior, The Wanted, Carly Rae Jepsen and my girl Rachel Crow treated the kids (and me) to their favorite tunes. The best part of taking part in AAKD was getting a chance to meet my boys from Mindless Behavior. (Check out my photo with 'em at right.)
I hosted an amazing group of players from House of Pride Tennis, Prince George’s Tennis and Education Foundation, and Active Aces Super Senior Tennis Club. The groups showed their support wearing Team Sloane shirts. It was really cool to see. After the show, I met up with my friends at the American Express Experience. If you plan to head out to the Open, be sure to stop by and enjoy the atmosphere there.
Sunday started at a reasonable hour with an 11:30 a.m. practice with Mitchell Krueger. (Thanks, Mitchell!) The site was filled with excited fans, enjoying practices and looking for autographs from their favorite players. It's great to feel the energy when you pull into Flushing Meadows. There's always such a buzz!
After lunch, I had a quick snooze and then a short hit with Christina McHale. Getting ready for big tournaments is actually similar to at other events. I try to keep my routines -- it makes life simpler. There's something about New York that really energizes me, though. I haven't quite figured it out exactly, but it's all good.
My first match will be Tuesday against the No. 22 seed, Francesca Schiavone. She won the French Open in 2010 and it will be a tough first-round match. But I am training hard with my team to make sure I’m ready.
This is such a fun time of the year, having a Grand Slam so close to home. I can't wait. I love New York!
