Howdy from Norman, Okla.!
Aggie softball is currently hanging out at the hotel praying for the rain to hold up Thursday night. We are beyond excited to take on Oklahoma in the first game of super regionals. In fact, we've been so anxious since Sunday that we don't want to wait a second longer to get on that field.
Before leaving College Station, our team and staff organized a relief effort for West, Texas, and Moore, Okla. The explosion in West just over a month ago really hit home for our girls, as several of us knew someone affected.
We rallied the Aggie community prior to our super regional departure, resulting in an enormous amount of monetary and clothing donations. Our bus stopped in West and again in Norman to give back on behalf of the 12th Man. It was such a humbling experience for us all to unload a moving truck of donations from College Station. It's moments like this that make super regionals seem of minimal importance. The very least we could do was show our support for those going through a tough time.
Nonetheless, we have some business to take care of in Norman.
During practice Wednesday on the Sooners' field, coach Jo Evans took some time out to interview freshman Breanna Dozier. Sara Mireles, Alex Masek and Kristen Davenport provided some synchronized backup dancing toward the end. Y'all gotta check it out! Moments like this are very common for Aggie softball, but we are thrilled that it was finally caught on camera.
One of the best things about this team is how much we love each other. I'll put our chemistry up against anyone else in the country and that helps fuel our fire on the field. Errors and bad at-bats happen -- it's all a part of the game. But what's important is when it happens, any one of our girls can go up and say,"I got you." We protect each other and play for each other unlike any other team I've ever seen. This team has something special. Don't you dare count us out.
Only 16 D-I teams are still playing or practicing, and we earned our spot as one of them. It's pretty surreal, but we know we are exactly where we belong.
Time to head to lunch before Game 1. Until next time, thanks and gig 'em!
