Raising the banner was unbelievable

By Maggie Lucas

Penn State
Penn State aspired to return to the championship conversation, and Maggie Lucas and her teammates delivered.

There is so much hype surrounding the beginning of college hoops season, and I am sure everyone was eager to get back on the court for their openers this past week. There is nothing quite like the adrenaline rush of playing college basketball.

The season most definitely started on a different note. For the first time since I have been a Lady Lion, my teammates and I watched our 2012 Big Ten Championship banner get raised to the rafters next to all of the other heralded Lady Lion and Nittany Lion seasons. It was an unbelievable moment to share with the team, coaches and all of our faithful fans.

When coach Quese recruited my teammates and me, she explained that each one of us was a piece of the puzzle that would contribute to bringing the Lady Lion basketball program back into the championship conversation. Growing up, I dreamed of playing in huge games on an even bigger stage, and that is the opportunity that our coaches here at Penn State have afforded to my teammates and me.

Even though our team is 100 percent focused on the season in front of us, we still felt an extreme sense of pride watching the banner raised, knowing that we had all played a part in bringing that championship home.

We will be headed to Texas A&M on Wednesday, and then we will be back on our home court Sunday.
