|Alex Bentley, left, is an intense leader; Dara Taylor brings speed to a new level.|
We Lady Lions are blessed to have two extremely talented, but also very different point guards in Alex Bentley and Dara Taylor. They are the floor generals of our team, and they are in charge on the court. Basically they are an extension of our commander in chief, Coach Quese.
One of the best things about getting to play with Alex is the amount of intensity and competitiveness she brings every day. She is an unbelievable leader, and she makes all of her teammates better.
When I first got to Penn State and met Alex, I immediately knew the two of us were a lot alike. During my freshman year, we actually bumped heads a fair amount. Now in my junior year, that is not the case at all. She is one of my closest friends, and our communication and chemistry on the court is based around the trust we have formed over the past couple of years playing together.
Our other point guard is Dara Taylor. Dara is the fastest player I have ever played with. The Lady Lions were a fast-paced team before Dara arrived, but after adding her to the program, she has taken our speed to a whole new level. She has the ability to make passes and plays nobody else on the court thought were possible.
I go way back with Dara. We have been playing together since we were about 10 years old for the Philadelphia Belles AAU program. Back then we called ourselves the “Core 4” with two of our other teammates Amy Woods and Victoria Sobocinski. We played for a great coach in Brian Creech, who taught us how to play so well together. When I found out I would have the chance to play with Dara again, I was thrilled, and still can’t quite believe that we are teammates again.
The Lady Lions wouldn’t trade our point guards for the world, and I can’t wait to get back in action with the two of them on Thursday vs. Northwestern in our Big Ten home opener!
