A tip of our helmets to top defenders
By Lizzie Haldane
Crystal Dunn, left, is on the ball at the U-20 women's World Cup in September.
Ray Lewis, who is set to retire after the Super Bowl, is one of just six players to be named the NFL’s Defensive Player of the Year multiple times. With six days until Super Bowl XLVII, we tip our helmets to fantastic defenders in the women’s game who are still going strong: USC libero Natalie Hagglund, a back-to-back first-team All-America selection; Fever forward Tamika Catchings, who won her fifth WNBA defensive player of the year award in September; and UNC and U.S. defender/midfielder Crystal Dunn, a two-time All-American and ACC Defensive Player of the Year, who won the Hermann Trophy and Honda Sports Award this past season.
