|Three Penn State starters have hit the 1,000-point milestone: Nikki Greene, left, Maggie Lucas, right, and Alex Bentley.|
Last week one of my teammates reached a huge milestone in her career. In our win over Minnesota, Nikki Greene pulled down a tough offensive rebound in traffic scored with a quick putback layup. That basket marked the 1,000th point of Nikki’s career.
Nikki is the third Lady Lion in our starting lineup with 1,000 points, joining point guard Alex Bentley and myself. It’s really cool to have three players on the court at the same time who have achieved this great career milestone.
Nikki is one of the most dominant post players in our conference, and she has the ability to affect games in a variety of ways. She has a huge presence in the paint on defense. If she isn’t blocking shots, she is most definitely making the offense think twice about driving the lane.
On the other end, Nikki has taken her game to a whole new level since she first started at Penn State. She demands the attention of the defense and forces many teams to try to double-team her. In those cases, she can either score quickly or look to kick and re-post before the double-team hits.
We are all extremely proud of Nikki for reaching the 1,000-point milestone. We will be back in action Thursday at Wisconsin before hosting Purdue in a key Big Ten matchup as part of Big Monday on ESPN2.
