A workout before breakfast can go a long way on Fat Tuesday and beyond.
Put down the beignets and start off Fat Tuesday right -- by burning off more of that adipose tissue on an empty stomach. A study published in the “British Journal of Nutrition” concluded that people who exercise right after they wake up, burn 20 percent more fat than those who eat something before their workouts. Researchers also found that early-morning exercise didn't cause hunger or increased calorie consumption throughout the day. What's more, the overnight fast forces the body to rely on its stored fat for energy, triggers a sizable reduction in artery-clogging blood fats, boosts metabolism, increases energy, and gives a sense of accomplishment.
