A win is a win, but not in the standings
After getting a combined perfect game with two teammates over the weekend, the Gators' Hannah Rogers helped Florida hand Alabama its first loss of the season on Wednesday.
No. 4 Florida handed defending champion and top-ranked Alabama its first loss of the season on Wednesday, but, due to some quirky scheduling and rules, the clash between the two SEC powerhouses won’t count in the SEC standings. With the addition of Missouri and Texas A&M to the SEC, schools no longer play every other team in the conference. Alabama-Florida, which had been one of the best rivalries in the nation for the past several years, wasn't on the schedule. The schools decided to keep the rivalry alive, though, with a one-game clash. Three-time defending SEC champion Alabama (22-1) officially will open conference play Friday at Tennessee in the first game of a three-game series. Florida (23-1), meanwhile, "opens" its SEC schedule against Auburn on Friday.
