Rosie Napravnik looks to ride into history
By Lizzie Haldane
Rosie Napravnik's last win aboard Mylute came in December.
We’re ticking toward the “best two minutes in sports” today as the 139th Kentucky Derby is set to start at 6:24 p.m. ET. Rosie Napravnik, a 25-year-old from New Jersey, is hoping to become the first female jockey to win it. She already has posted the best finish by a female jockey, when she rode Pants on Fire to a ninth-place finish at the Kentucky Derby in 2011. Her partner this year is a is a gray colt named Mylute, who finished second in the Louisiana Derby in March. Napravnik is no stranger to the winner’s circle. In 2012, she became the first female jockey to win the Kentucky Oaks and she broke Julie Krone’s record for the most purse money earned by a female rider in a calendar year, winning more than $12.4 million.
