Oops. Larry Donnell The Fantasy Owner Benched Larry Donnell The Player

Rule No. 1 in fantasy football: Never bench yourself. While most of us don’t have this dilemma, New York Giants tight end Larry Donnell committed this faux pas with his Week 4 fantasy lineup. Owning himself and San Francisco 49ers tight end Vernon Davis, he opted to play Davis instead. So that doesn’t say much about Donnell’s self-confidence.

However, in great news for his career and in not-so great news for his fantasy team, Donnell ended up having a personal record-setting day on Sunday with three touchdowns in a 45-14 win over the Washington Redskins. Davis, on the other hand, had two catches for 8 yards against the Philadelphia Eagles. So while his real team may have won, Donnell’s fantasy squad lost by 15 points. He would have won had he, you know, believed in himself. There’s a lesson here, kids.

Thankfully this story might have a happy ending as Donnell told Art Stapleton of The Record that he will be playing himself during his Week 5 matchup. He's currently available in 73% of ESPN.com fantasy leagues, so you might want to pick him up off the waiver wire and do the same.
