When Americans Joss Christensen, Gus Kenworthy and Nick Goepper swept the podium in men's slopestyle skiing on Thursday, it marked the third time in history the U.S. had claimed all three medals in a Winter Olympics event. During the 1956 Cortina Games, Hayes Alan Jenkins, Ronnie Robertson and David Jenkins finished 1-2-3 in the men's figure skating. Held outdoors for the last time, the American trio dominated with over a three-point lead separating bronze medalist Jenkins from the fourth-place finisher. In 2002 at the Salt Lake City Olympics, Ross Powers, Danny Kass and Jarret Thomas became the second group of Americans to sweep an event when they did it in the men's halfpipe. No group of American women has ever swept a Winter Olympics event. Turning up the heat, the U.S. has swept a total of 150 podiums at the Summer Olympics, according to Olympic historian Bill Mallon.
