This past week we traveled across country to Northridge, Calif., for a Thanksgiving tournament. It was my first visit to California, and even though it was a business trip, we also got to have a little fun, too. We visited Universal Studios and saw a taping of the NBC series “Whitney.”
As a college basketball player you get used to spending the holiday away from your family, and instead, hitting the road for games. What was special about this trip is that, for a lot of the team, we were able to combine seeing family and playing.
Gizelle Studevent, Candice Agee and our manager, Jennifer Montoya, are all Cali girls, so the trip was a great homecoming for the three of them. Their families turned out in bunches to the games to show their support. Additionally, Alex Bentley and Nikki Greene also had some friends and family attend the games.
Personally, I also was very excited my older brother and his girlfriend, who live in San Diego, had the chance to see me play in person and we were even able to get Thanksgiving dinner together.
Since our team is from all over the country, Coach Quese really makes an effort to get each of us back near our hometowns for a game at some point during our Lady Lion career. There is nothing quite like playing in front of family, so it’s great to know each of us will have that opportunity.
This week we head to Miami to take on the Hurricanes on Thursday, and then we are back home on Sunday vs. Farleigh Dickenson. In the meantime you can follow me on Twitter @maggielucas33 or follow the Lady Lions @pennstatewbb.
