Staind Lead Singer Messes Up National Anthem Before Game 5

The lead singer of Staind sang the national anthem prior to Game 5 of the World Series on Sunday night. While that in itself is baffling -- I mean, was NO other 1990s moderately famous rock singer available? -- it somehow got even more so when he FORGOT THE WORDS.

Yup, it’s true. Aaron Lewis took the field and promptly messed up the second line of the song that everyone else in the country seems to have memorized by first grade. You can listen to the angsty-rock version with a “What so proudly we hailed were so gallantly streaming” line below ... if you dare. It really might be better for your eardrums to just take my word for it.

Lewis later apologized for the flub on his Facebook page asking the nation for forgiveness and citing his nerves for getting the best of him. Somehow, I don’t think that will be a problem. We’ve forgotten about you before, Aaron. We can definitely do it again.

Somewhere out there Fred Durst is hoping someone from the Royals will return his phone call begging to sing before Tuesday’s Game 6.
