Only one filly has won the Preakness Stakes since 1929, and that was Rachel Alexandra in 2009. She became the first filly to win both the Kentucky Oaks and then the Preakness. Later that year, Rachel Alexandra was named the American Horse of the Year. She retired from the track the following year. This last February, she gave birth to a 140-pound bay filly and, after battling an infection that required major surgery, she has been enjoying her life at Stonestreet Farm in Kentucky. There are no fillies running in the 2013 race.
