Breaking down Packers' defensive snaps

GREEN BAY, Wis. -- A look at the snap counts from the Green Bay Packers' 20-16 loss at the Tennessee Titans in Saturday's preseason opener:

Total defensive snaps (61)

Defensive line

Khyri Thornton: 30

Luther Robinson: 25

Mike Pennel: 23

Datone Jones: 20

Carlos Gray: 18

Mike Daniels: 17

Josh Boyd: 8

B.J. Raji: 8

Notes: Jones, Raji and Daniels opened in the base defense. In the sub packages, Daniels paired with both Raji and Jones on occasions. Defensive coordinator Dom Capers wanted to take a long look at Pennel, who has been perhaps the class of the undrafted rookies, so when Raji was done after two series, Pennel took over at nose tackle. He was credited with a pair of tackles, including a solo stop on a 1-yard gain by running back Antonio Andrews. Boyd and Thornton had the only quarterback hurries by this group, according to ProFootballFocus.com.

Jake Doughty: 33

Nick Perry: 26

Korey Jones: 25

Nate Palmer: 23

Mike Neal: 19

Sam Barrington: 18

Jamari Lattimore: 16

Andy Mulumba: 13

Brad Jones: 12

Clay Matthews: 10

Julius Peppers: 10

A.J. Hawk: 9

Carl Bradford: 8

Jayrone Elliott: 6

Adrian Hubbard: 6

Joe Thomas: 4

Notes: It was borderline shocking to see Perry, a first-round pick less than two and a half years ago, on the field with a bunch of second- and third-stringers in the third quarter. Yet he was credited with just one assist on a tackle and nothing on the quarterback. Perry and Neal were the second outside linebacker duo after Matthews and Peppers were done after two series. Perry stayed on to team with Palmer, who had two tackles and a QB hurry. On the inside, Barrington had a pair of tackles, including a nice run fit to stop Bishop Sankey for just 2 yards on a second-and-9 play in the second quarter. Korey Jones got additional playing time after Thomas dropped out with a knee injury and came up with an interception in the fourth quarter. Doughty recovered a fumble in the fourth quarter.

Demetri Goodson: 27

Jumal Rolle: 25

Casey Hayward: 24

Davon House: 18

Ryan White: 18

Jarrett Bush: 16

Antonio Dennard: 11

Tramon Williams: 10

Sam Shields: 9

Notes: Goodson, the sixth-round pick who has struggled in practice, got flagged for pass interference but came back to break up a deep ball. He also matched receiver Kevin Dorsey with a team-high 10 snaps on special teams. Hayward returned to his familiar spot as the slot cornerback in the nickel package with the starters and then played extensively on the outside (along with House) as the No. 2 pairing after Williams and Shields. Bush, always a fantastic practice and preseason player, excelled with eight tackles and a sack. Rolle’s strip-sack forced the fumble that Doughty recovered.

Ha Ha Clinton-Dix: 28

Micah Hyde: 28

Chris Banjo: 27

Sean Richardson: 26

Charles Clay: 17

Notes: Clinton-Dix, starting in place of Morgan Burnett, was credited with three tackles and a pass breakup but had one of the team's eight missed tackles (according to PFF). He was targeted twice and did not allow a completion. In his first action at safety, Hyde gave up a 7-yard completion to tight end Taylor Thompson but wrapped him up a yard short of a first down on third-and-8. Hyde had four stops without a missed tackle. Richardson had one missed tackle.
