Breaking down Packers' defensive snaps

GREEN BAY, Wis. -- A look at the snap counts from the Green Bay Packers' 31-21 victory over the Oakland Raiders in Friday's third preseason game:

Total defense plays (70)

Defensive line

Khyri Thornton: 28

Luther Robinson: 28

Mike Pennel: 23

Josh Boyd: 21

Carlos Gray: 20

Mike Daniels: 18

Datone Jones: 16

B.J. Raji: 7

Notes: Boyd likely would have been the top backup at either defensive end spot, but after Raji dropped out with a season-ending biceps tear, the Packers put the second-year pro at nose tackle, and he managed just fine with two tackles and a quarterback pressure. The Packers give up 27 pounds with the 310-pound Boyd at the nose compared to Raji, but Boyd makes up for it with his high-energy play. Pennel made only one tackle during his stint at the nose position.

Linebackers

Sam Barrington: 38

Jamari Lattimore: 25

Carl Bradford: 24

Jayrone Elliott: 22

Clay Matthews: 22

Julius Peppers: 22

Mike Neal: 17

Brad Jones: 16

Jake Doughty: 15

Korey Jones: 15

A.J. Hawk: 14

Nick Perry: 12

Nate Palmer: 10

Adrian Hubbard: 9

Andy Mulumba: 7

Notes: All three sacks came from the outside linebackers (Peppers, Perry and Elliott). The coaches gave Bradford a chance to show something by starting him in the second half ahead of Mulumba and Palmer, but the rookie fourth-round pick did not produce. Bradford even got some looks with some No. 1 special teams units. On the inside, Barrington and Lattimore got some work with the rest of the No. 1 defense in the first half after Hawk and Jones came out. Lattimore showed much more than Barrington.

Cornerbacks

Jumal Rolle: 48

Davon House: 25

Sam Shields: 22

Tramon Williams: 22

Demetri Goodson: 19

Jarrett Bush: 18

Ryan White: 18

Antonio Dennard: 15

Notes: Shields had 39 yards worth of pass interference penalties when he got flagged on consecutive plays in the second quarter, but he gave up only one reception for 9 yards and quickly brought receiver James Jones to the ground on the play. Goodson stumbled and gave up a 40-yard bomb to Denarius Moore before leaving with a concussion. If the Packers keep him over Rolle, it will be because he's a draft pick.

Safeties

Ha Ha Clinton-Dix: 38

Micah Hyde: 34

Sean Richardson: 22

Morgan Burnett: 22

Chris Banjo: 13

Charles Clay: 13

Tanner Miller: 12

Notes: Burnett and Hyde both missed tackles (along with Hawk) near the line of scrimmage on Maurice Jones-Drew’s 21-yard touchdown run in the first quarter. Burnett came back to break up a third-down pass, while Hyde responded by dumping Darren McFadden for a loss on a third-down pass. Richardson continued his play-making ways this summer by forcing a fumble that Banjo recovered in the third quarter.
