It's much easier to play arm-chair general manager, so we will.

This week, we'll examine some of the tougher decisions Thompson has to make among his 17 players who began this offseason as unrestricted free agents. We'll skip cornerback Sam Shields, who isn’t expected to get a deal done before hitting the open mark.

On Monday, we looked at the case for tight end Jermichael Finley followed by receiver James Jones on Tuesday.

Next up is center Evan Dietrich-Smith.

The 27-year-old completed his first full season as a starter after taking over the spot from Jeff Saturday late in the 2012 season. Dietrich-Smith started every game in 2013.

He played last season under the restricted free agent tender of $1.323 million. The Packers don't have another natural center on the roster, although last season they converted rookie fourth-round pick JC Tretter. After breaking his ankle in the offseason workouts, Tretter did not appear in any games last season.

With that in mind, is it worth bringing back Dietrich-Smith?

That's for you to decide. Vote in our keep him or dump him poll. We'll do the same with a different free-agent-to-be all week and then examine the results at the end.
