Roster at 51 after Bostick, Jolly to IR

GREEN BAY, Wis. -- As expected, the Green Bay Packers placed defensive tackle Johnny Jolly and tight end Brandon Bostick on injured reserve.

But perhaps the more surprising move was that they did not add anyone to the roster to replace them, according to Saturday's NFL transaction wire.

That means the Packers will take 51 players into Sunday’s game against the Pittsburgh Steelers but will only have to declare five players inactive to get down to the 46-man game day roster.

On Thursday, coach Mike McCarthy said Jolly sustained a “significant injury.” Jolly injured both his neck and shoulder in last Sunday’s game against the Dallas Cowboys. The neck injury is believed to be what ended his season, although Jolly refused to comment when approached in the locker room on Friday.

On Friday, McCarthy said Bostick would need surgery on the foot he injured against the Cowboys.

Despite having what McCarthy called a good week of practice last week, receiver Randall Cobb was not activated off the injured reserve designated to return list. Cobb practiced for the first time since he broke the tibia in his right leg on Oct. 13.
