Florida baseball coach earns 1,000th win

University School (Fort Lauderdale, Fla.) legendary baseball coach Rich Hofman earned his 1,000th career victory on Tuesday night when his Suns blanked Pope John Paul II (Boca Raton, Fla.) 3-0.

Hofman is the 13th high school baseball coach to reach 1,000 wins and is the all-time wins leader in Florida.

He began his coaching career at Westminster Christian (Palmetto Bay, Fla.) in 1969 and led the school to eight state titles. Hofman, who coached the likes of Alex Rodriguez and Doug Mientkiewicz at Westminster Christian, has won 10 state titles overall.
