LONG BEACH, Calif. -- After 15 runs were scored in the opening game between the Nationals and Yankees, Milwaukee Brewers pitcher Ian Clarkin made sure the second contest of the day started off much quieter.
The 6-foot-3, 190-pound lefty from Madison (San Diego) pitched three scoreless innings, allowing only one hit -- a weak, seeing-eye single -- and a walk.
Clarkin, who'll be staying at home to play for the University of San Diego, went 8-2 with 106 strikeouts and a 0.62 ERA this spring for Madison. He also hit .404.
