Shattuck-St. Mary's visits the Rapids for a rematch Saturday in the Mile High City with Development Academy Under-17/18 playoff positions on the line. Shattuck leads the divsion while the Rapids are tied for second. Only the top two teams in the eight-squad division are assured of a playoff position.

With his team trailing division nemesis Vardar SC Freiburg by two goals at halftime Sunday, there was concern on behalf of forward Joseph Calistri that his Chicago Fire under-17/18 team would lose for the first time in its past 14 games of U.S. Soccer Development Academy action.

Then came the rain. Literally.

"Basically, we had about an hour rain delay, so we went into the locker room, and the coaches left us alone for about an hour. We had to figure it out on our own, and we pretty much did," Calistri said.

NE Revolution, Empire United join forces

Beginning with the 2012-13 season, Empire United will become “Revolution Empire, A New England Revolution Soccer Club.”

When it comes to the Albertson SC under-15/16 squad, head coach Adrian Gaitan makes no bones about the fact that he has relied heavily on defender Mark Romanowski to be the spine of his program.

"Mark's definitely the backbone of our team. Not just the defense, but the backbone of our team," said Gaitan, whose club leads the Liberty Division of the East Conference in U.S. Soccer Development Academy. "He's a great one-on-one defender, he's very fast, he's very good with the ball. He's extremely dangerous on any sort of set piece. He just does so many things for us."
