Everyone’s heard the old adage: defense wins championships. If the old adage is true, Concorde Fire seems to be a good bet for the Under-15 age group of this weekend’s US Youth Soccer Region III Championships.
The Atlanta area squad made it to the semifinals of last year’s regional, winning four games by scores of 1-0, 2-1, 1-0 and 1-0. The then held eventual champion Dallas Texans to a scoreless draw in regulation in the semifinals, before losing in the second overtime frame.

Tampa Bay United Premier coach Scotty Moniz wasted no time voicing his thoughts on his team’s grouping for the 2012 US Youth Soccer Region III Championships: “It’s the group of death.”
“You’ve got the state champion from Texas, the state champion from Oklahoma, and the state champion from South Carolina. There’s not going to be an easy game anywhere in there.”

In the changing landscape of Florida club soccer, one thing remains constant: this Florida Rush Nike squad is a national competitor. The team that won last year’s Region III Championship also won this year’s Region III East Premier League, and heads into Greensville, S.C., looking to defend its regional crown.
“The thing that really sets us apart is our cohesiveness and our chemistry as a team,” says coach Nate Omodt. “We’ve got a bunch of kids who are really dedicated to each other and really committed to winning.”
