Zackary Steffen, rated the top goalkeeper in the Class of 2013 by ESPNHS, has verbally committed to the University of Maryland, ESPNHS learned.
The Class of 2013 prospect from Downingtown, Pa., has been involved with the Youth National Teams since he was a 14-year-old team captain. Most recently, he accompanied the Under-17 National Team when it competed at the Mondial Minimes tournament in Montaigu, France.
He plays club soccer for FC Delco in the U.S. Soccer Development Academy and has been a member of the Philadelphia Union reserve team.
Steffen attends Malvern Prep (Malvern, Pa.), where he earned all-area honors as a sophomore in 2010. He actually made Malvern Prep's varsity team as an eighth-grader.
Steffen is the second confirmed commit to Maryland for the Class of 2013, joining Alex Crognale.
