Peyton Atteloney, a Class of 2012 midfielder prospect from Cambria Heights, N.Y., verbally committed Wednesday to NJIT, he said.

Atteloney helped Christ the King (Flushing, N.Y.) to the Catholic High School Athletic Association Class AA Intersectional semifinals this past fall season.

He is a former U.S. Soccer Development Academy player who now plays for Auburndale Aston Villa. Atteloney was a three-year US Youth Soccer Olympic Development Program Region I member.

He is the fourth confirmed commitment to NJIT, joining fellow New Yorkers Jason Gonzalez, Enrique Hidalgo and Jimmy Myers. Atteloney played against Gonzalez and Hidalgo this past high school season.

Other Schools Considered: Adelphi, Amherst, Georgetown, Goucher, Seton Hall.

Why NJIT?: "I really like the campus. The coaches were great and so was the team. I liked the training and I could see that this team works very hard. I could see myself fitting in perfectly."

What surprised you about the recruiting process?: "I was surprised with all the rules that you have to follow and how quickly the process takes. I got invited to theses camps and got seen by many college coaches through tournaments one week, and then the next day you receive a phone call or e-mail showing interest in you or asking you to come down for a visit."
