Ryan Thompson, originally a Class of 2013 midfielder prospect from North Carolina, verbally commited to Duke on Wednesday, according to his high school coach Andrew Chadwick. Thompson is planning to graduate early in order to report to Duke for the fall season.

Thompson earned all-region honors at Green Hope (Morrisville, N.C.) while helping the team to a 25-1 showing, a Class 4A state title and a POWERADE FAB 50 No. 7 final ranking in 2011.

He plays for the CASL Chelsea under-17/18 U.S. Soccer Development Academy team where he has appeared in all seven matches for the squad this season. Last year, he played in 23 matches for the under-15/16 team and scored three goals.

Thompson joins a recruiting class that includes Jake Leaman of Connecticut, Zachary Mathers of Texas and Luis Rendon of Virginia.
