Ian Harkes, the son of former U.S. National Team standout John Harkes, verbally committed to Wake Forest, he confirmed to ESPNHS on Wednesday.
The Class of 2013 midfielder prospect plays club soccer for DC United's Under-15/16 Academy squad, where he has appeared in all seven matches this season. Last year, he made 24 appearances, scoring two goals as DC United won the division title.
In high school this past fall, Harkes scored 16 goals and had 14 assists to help Gonzaga (Washington, D.C.) to a Washington Catholic Athletic Conference runner-up finish. He was named to the Washington Post All-Metro first team.
Harkes becomes the third player to commit to Wake Forest from DC United, joining Rafael Fagundo and Collin Martin. Maryland native Jacori Hayes and Texas product Hayden Partain also have committed to Wake for the Class of 2013.
