WVU turns to Richmond Kickers for defense

Haydon Bennett, a Class of 2012 defender prospect from Chesterfield, Va., verbally committed to West Virginia University, his family confirmed Tuesday morning.

Bennett is a starter for the under-17/18 Richmond Kickers team in the U.S. Soccer Development Academy. He is the team's second defender to commit to WVU this year, along with Christopher Spates.

In high school soccer, Bennett is a three-year varsity letterman for Clover Hill (Chesterfield, Va.).

He joins a WVU recruiting class that includes Spates, Zak Leedom from Ohio, James Merriam from Maryland, Carter Phillips from West Virginia and Kyle Underwood from Texas.
