Disney Showcase: Wednesday highlights
By Sheldon Shealer
LAKE BUENA VISTA, Fla. -- Although many of the players are high school freshmen, that didn’t stop a few college coaches from taking a peek at FC America Premier (Fla.) under-15s Wednesday night at the Disney Soccer Showcase.
This star-studded team delivered a 3-0 victory over CCV Stars 97 Black (Ariz.) to surge into first place in the group and all but assure themselves of a spot in the Under-15 Showcase Black final. Alex Norris, Thomas Redding and Daniel Castellano scored the goals. Redding, an under-15 Youth National Team member, delivered a solid header goal on a set piece while moving up from his role as a defender.
The team also features under-15 Youth National Team player Abuchi Obinwa and US Youth Soccer ODP player Aidan Wixted.
The following are highlights from Wednesday's second-round action at the Disney Soccer Showcase:
Showcase Red: Bracket A: FC Blazers (Mass.) and Chicago Magic PSG Disney (Ill.) are tied for first in the group and play Thursday. The Blazers got back into the title hunt following a 1-0 victory over West Pines United (Fla.). Chicago Magic and Concorde Fire Elite (Ga.) played to a scoreless tie. Bracket B: Milan FC Rossoneri (Calif.) is sitting in first place with a Thursday contest against last-place FC Copa Juniors (N.J.), which has yet to score a goal. Milan FC simply needs a tie to advance to the championship match.
