Taylor Walter, a Class of 2012 midfielder/defender prospect from Overland Park, Kan., verbally committed to Colgate on Tuesday, his family confirmed.

Walter has appeared in all six matches for Sporting Kansas City's under-17/18 U.S. Soccer Development Academy team this season. He was a charter member of the team's under-15 team in the 2008-09 season.

Walter was a high school first-team all-league and all-state selection while helping Blue Valley (Stilwell, Kan.) to a Class 5A state runner-up finish this past fall. He was a four-year varsity starter.

He joins a Colgate recruiting class that includes Tyler Forbes, Kyle Reilly and Drew Thompson of New York, Ryan Groffie of New Jersey, Dan Matthews of Pennsylvania and Nick Rizzo in Missouri.
