By Sheldon Shealer
Roland Minogue (20) selected North Carolina over offers from Clemson, Elon, High Point, North Carolina State, UNC Charlotte and Ohio State.
Roland Minogue IV, who has started all 11 matches for Charlotte Soccer Academy's under-17/18 Development Academy team this season, verbally committed Wednesday to North Carolina, according to his family.
Minogue, a Class of 2013 prospect from North Carolina, has four goals this season with Charlotte Soccer Academy. He is rated as the No. 39 prospect on the ESPNHS 150 for the Class of 2013.
During the high school season, he helped Charlotte Catholic (Charlotte, N.C.) to a 22-4 showing and a state runner-up finish this past fall. He earned all-conference, all-region and all-state honors.
Minogue has been a full-time Development Academy player since 2009 and served as a team captain last season when Charlotte Soccer Academy posted a 21-4-3 record. The midfielder had nine goals and 13 assists during the 2010-11 season.
Minogue is the fourth Class of 2013 commit to North Carolina, joining fellow North Carolina natives Warren Marshall, Eric O'Brien and Marco Sunol.
