FAB 50 Insider: No. 3 Jenks (Okla.) falls

By Sheldon Shealer

Updated daily as necessary, the ESPNHS FAB 50 Insider tracks FAB 50 upsets, outstanding performances and news that is expected to impact the rankings. This FAB 50 Insider reflects matches played between April 9-15.

Thursday, April 12
Franklin (Tenn.) 3, No. 3 Jenks (Okla.) 2: Franklin, in the bottom half of the Tennessee top 10, knocked off ESPNHS Oklahoma No. 1 Jenks in first-round action at the Williamson County Tournament. Considering Union (Tulsa, Okla.) lost to Auburn (Ala.) and now Jenks tumbled to an out-of-state opponent, it's up to Noman North (Norman, Okla.) to finish strong in South Carolina to help Oklahoma soccer regain its standing among spring-playing states.

No. 7 Christian Brothers (Memphis, Tenn.) 3, No. 50 Houston (Germantown, Tenn.) 0: Sam Wilson, Andrew McKeever and Chris Gardea scored in CBHS' victory. Given that the Nos. 3 and 5 teams have lost this week, Christian Brothers is likely going to crack the top five if it finishes out the weekend with a perfect record.

No. 48 Wando (Mount Pleasant, S.C.) 4, No. 5 Cardinal Newman (Columbia, S.C.) 2: Cardinal Newman scored first but two goals from Trent Rieflin helped Wando remain undefeated at the Palmetto Cup and likely moving up in next week's POWERADE FAB 50. For the latest Palmetto Cup action, click here.

Wednesday, April 11
Spring POWERADE FAB 50 No. 1 Irmo (S.C.) and No. 48 Wando (Mount Pleasant, S.C.), two of the preseason favorites in South Carolina, kicked off the Palmetto Cup with wins over nationally ranked opponents. Irmo handled No. 38 Northwestern (Rock Hill, S.C.) 5-1 and Wando defeated No. 20 Fort Mill (S.C.) 2-1.

Tuesday, April 10
Oakton (Va.) 4, Herndon (Va.) 3:
Oakton had been struggling to find the net. Herndon, meanwhile, had been winning the close games. Those situations were reversed Tuesday night as Oakton, ranked No. 14 in the ESPNHS Virginia rankings, pinned the first loss of the season on Herndon, which is ranked No. 10 in the POWERADE FAB 50 spring rankings.

In Texas, Winter POWERADE FAB 50 No. 50 Westlake (Austin, Texas) pinned a 1-0 defeat on No. 8 Klein (Spring, Texas), ending the program's 21-match undefeated run. Brien Twomey's second-half goal was the difference.
