Norman North forfeits to comply with rules
By Sheldon Shealer
Norman North (Norman, Okla.) has a record three Palmetto Cup titles. However, this year, Norman North is out of the title running before the team has arrived at the annual event in South Carolina.
Event organizer Kevin Heise confirmed Tuesday night that the Oklahoma Secondary School Activities Association is enforcing its position that Norman North can only participate in three matches. The Palmetto Cup format requires each team to play four contests with the top two point-earners meeting for a title match.
In order to comply with the OSSAA guidelines, Norman North is not playing its scheduled Wednesday match against Christ Church (Greenville, S.C.), which will go down as a forfeit in event standings. Norman North will play its Thursday, Friday and Saturday contests but will not be eligible for the Saturday evening championship match, Heise said.
