Santa Clara adds commitment from Japan

By Sheldon Shealer

Haru Kent, a Class of 2013 prospect who attends the American School in Japan, recently committed to Santa Clara, ESPNHS learned Tuesday night.

Kent is a two-sport standout at the school, playing both soccer and American football.

During the soccer season, he scored five goals and helped AJIS win the Kanto Plains Association of Secondary School Principals (KPASSP) Invitational at St. Mary's. In the final, played in February, AJIS defeated Deutsche Schule Tokyo Yokohama, the local German school.

A month later, Kent was seleted to play for Team USA in the Tomodachi Bowl, an American football contest against Japan's all-stars. Kent, a running back, rushed for 108 yards, scored a touchdown and kicked a field goal in the 50-17 win.

Kent is the first confirmed commitment to Santa Clara for the Class of 2013.
