IUPUI lands a pair of Class of 2013 verbals

By Sheldon Shealer

Defender Cameron Knox and midfielder Evan Smith, both from Indiana, have verbally committed to IUPUI, ESPNHS learned Friday.

Knox has appeared in 16 matches, starting 14, for the Indiana United Fire Under-17/18 Development Academy squad. Smith plays club soccer for South Central Soccer Academy.

Both players had strong showings during the fall high school season. Knox was named to the Indianapolis Star Super Team, was an ESPNHS fall all-star and received second-team all-state honors by the coaches while representing North Central (Indianapolis, Ind.). Smith recorded 31 assists for the high school team at Greencastle (Ind.), helping the squad to a 17-4 season and a semi-state playoff appearance.

Knox and Smith are the second and third commitments to IUPUI for the Class of 2013, joining Virginia native Ben Ogedegbe.
