Derek Carver, a Class of 2012 goalkeeper from Boise, Idaho, has verbally commited to Cal State-Northridge.

Carver was in the U.S. Soccer national player pool at the under-14 age group. He plays club soccer for the Idaho Rush under-18 program. He previously played for Mt. Hamilton PAC Tigres.

Carver played high school soccer at Mountain View (Meridian, Idaho).

He is the second confirmed player to commitment to Cal State-Northridge, joining Shane Steffes of California.

Other Schools Considered: UC Irvine, Chico State, Cal Baptist.

Why Cal State-Northridge?: "What made Cal State Northridge attractive was the opportunity to play in the Big West Conference vs. high level players in an envirorment that will develop me not only as a player but a person off the field. The weather of Southern California also made the decision very easy being from Boise, Idaho. Last of all, I love the diversity and unique oppurtunites to expand as an individual."

What surprised you the most about the recruiting process?: "The most surprising thing about the recruiting process I would say is the idea that is not always about how many e-mails or coaches you can contact before a tournament, but instead simply being lucky enough to be in the right place at the right time. For instance with my situation, prior to Surf College Cup 2011 I had not e-mailed or even looked into CSUN but it happened that coach Peter Bomar arrived early at the fields that Saturday morning and was talking to a fellow recruiter and I happened to be playing, I caught his eye, watched me the rest of the weekend and the rest is history! Not always about the player who gets the most e-mails out or attempts to contact the most coaches but instead pure fate of being in the right place at the right time. Simple as that."
