Highest-rising teams on the eve of section championship weekend throughout the state include Dorsey of Los Angeles, Serra of San Mateo and Righetti of Santa Maria.

All section championships around the state will be determined by the end of this weekend. On Sunday, March 4, CIF section commissioners will gather in two locations to seed the Northern California and Southern California regional tournaments. We will have our recommendations for the top seeds posted here as soon as possible throughout the weekend so check back frequently to see if your school’s division is done.

In the south, the highest-ranked teams are Mater Dei of Santa Ana (D1), Mayfair of Lakewood (D2), Alemany of Mission Hills (D3), Serra of Gardena (D4) and St. Bernard of Playa del Rey (D5).

In the north, the highest-ranked teams are De La Salle of Concord (D1), Archbishop Mitty of San Jose (D2), Sacred Heart Cathedral of San Francisco (D3), Salesian of Richmond (D4) and St. Joseph Notre Dame of Alameda (D5).

With help from Stockton office assistant editor Paul Muyskens, here is the fifth listing of boys teams this season by Cal-Hi Sports with analysis and bubble teams for each division (records listed after section playoff games played on Tuesday, Feb. 28 but rankings do not include any results from later in the week; previous ranking in parentheses):

Comments: Due to the close differences in Tuesday’s CIFSS semifinal wins by Mater Dei over Loyola and Long Beach Poly over Etiwanda, there is no need to change anything regarding Loyola’s and Etiwanda’s ranking. There are a lot of changes below the No. 10 position in this week’s rankings, however, thanks mostly to Dorsey of Los Angeles. The Dons first beat previous No. 12 Fairfax in the L.A. City Division I quarterfinals, then took down previous No. 10 Westchester with a come-from-behind victory over the Comets in the semifinals. Dorsey will now take a crack at defending champion Taft in Saturday’s L.A. City final.
