Only once before has one team had the State Coach of the Year and State Player of the Year for the same season. Lockman’s clutch efforts for Norco, however, win out even though head coach Rick Robinson was named state’s best last week.

With Norco being named POWERADE FAB 50 National Team of the Year as well as Cal-Hi Sports State Team of the Year in softball, Cougars’ star Emily Lockman has hit the trifecta -- or a quadruple if you include her coach, Rick Robinson, earning State Coach of the Year recognition last week.

Guiding program to No. 1 national ranking is too much to ignore as Norco’s Rick Robinson collects statewide honor. His career, which spans 18 seasons and began at nearby rival school, is not too shabby, either. Randy Willis, Jim Pingree also earn accolades.

What seems amazing is there have only been two 30-win seasons in the history of softball in the Inland Empire portion of the CIF Southern Section. The thing that’s not surprising is both have come from teams coached by Rick Robinson of Norco.

Cal-Hi Sports State Athlete of the Week

CalHiSportsNorco High SchoolNebraska-bound and 4.0 GPA student-athlete Emily Lockman pitched Norco to the championship of the Dave Kops Tournament of Champions last week at Mojave High in Bullhead City, Arizona.
Norco’s Emily Lockman knows how to lock down the plate as a big-time softball pitcher. She’s proven to be particularly good in tournament play, such as in last weekend’s Arizona Tournament of the Champions.

When Norco High’s Emily Lockman was a freshman, the Cougars took home the trophy at the prestigious Dave Kops Tournament of Champions in Bullhead City, Arizona.

That was in 2009 when Lockman was the backup pitcher for current Stanford star Teagan Gerhart.

Now, as a senior, it was Emily’s turn to shine in the circle at Mojave High, and the right-hander came through with flying colors.
