Some spectacular endings paved the way for Chaparral, Lewis-Palmer and Faith Christian to earn state championships over the weekend and earn high finishes in the POWERADE Colorado Weekly Rankings. Lewis-Palmer held on to the top spot after a late 3-pointer helped seal the victory for the Rangers. Chaparral took the second spot thanks to a buzzer-beating tip-in by senior Josh Adams. And Faith Christian's narrow one-point win over Kent Denver was enough to bring home the hardware.

1. Lewis-Palmer (27-1) Last week: No. 1

2. Chaparral (25-3) Last week: No. 2

3. Sierra (25-1) Last week: No. 3

With the Class 4A and Class 5A teams in the state semifinals, we're down to our penultimate POWERADE Colorado Weekly Rankings. A Class 4A state title for Lewis-Palmer will keep the Rangers in the top spot in our rankings, but anything short will usher in a new top team. Chaparral is still knocking on the door after advancing to the 5A state semifinals, and some 3A teams join the ranks this week after making some deep runs in their respective tourneys. The finish is shaping up to be a great one.

1. Lewis-Palmer (25-1) Last week: No. 1

2. Chaparral (23-3) Last week: No. 2

3. Sierra (25-1) Last week: No. 3

Here's why the state tournament is so crazy - you can be the top seed in our POWERADE Colorado Weekly Rankings one week, and you can be out of them entirely the next. That's what happened to three-time reigning champ Regis Jesuit, which will not be a four-time champ after losing to Poudre by three points early in the tournament. Our new No. 1 is Lewis-Palmer, playing as well as anyone in the state right now after winning its 24th consecutive game. Three teams have fallen out of the top 10 this week, and there may be more depending on how the playoffs continue to shake out.

1. Lewis-Palmer (24-1) Last week: No. 2

2. Chaparral (20-3) Last week: No. 3

3. Sierra (22-1) Last week: No. 8

The end of the regular season provided quite a shakeup, as some teams ended strong while others stumbled down the stretch. The good news is that now it's time to end the hypotheticals and let these teams settle who is best in the state tournament. The brackets were released over the weekend, and now we get to the fun part - letting these teams whittle down to a select few. There's only one team out of the rankings this week, making room for Aurora Central - a team that could be very dangerous in the tournament. We'll find out soon as the tourney tips off this week.

1. Regis Jesuit (20-3) Last week: No. 1

2. Lewis-Palmer (22-1) Last week: No. 3

3. Chaparral (20-3) Last week: No. 4

No week has provided a shakeup quite like this one. Two unbeatens suffered their first casualties, while others suffered similar fates. Highlands Ranch, which just two weeks ago looked like it could run the table and finish unbeaten, has slipped to sixth. And three-time reigning state champ Regis Jesuit, which at one point looked like it could be out of the running entirely, now sits atop our POWERADE Colorado Weekly Rankings. A salute to Denver East for returning to the top three as well as Lewis-Palmer, a team that hasn't lost since the season opener and now sits third in our rankings.

1. Regis Jesuit (17-3) Last week: No. 6

2. Denver East (17-3) Last week: No. 4

3. Lewis-Palmer (19-1) Last week: No. 7

It looks like more than a blizzard swept through the POWERADE Colorado Weekly Rankings, as some upsets and strong performances have given us a new No. 1 this week. Sterling takes over the top spot after Highlands Ranch was toppled for the first time this season by reigning 5A champ Regis, which is playing stellar basketball late in the regular season. Chaparral moves up to the No. 2 spot while Highlands Ranch drops to No. 3. Are there more upsets in store before the end of the regular season? We'll find out shortly.

1. Sterling (16-0) Last week: No. 2

2. Chaparral (17-2) Last week: No. 3

3. Highlands Ranch (17-1) Last week: No. 1

Since none of the teams in our POWERADE Colorado Weekly Rankings lost again this week, we'll have to look deeper for some of our storylines. For example, how long can our three unbeatens stay that way? Can Highlands Ranch run the table and win a state title? Is Regis playing well enough to make another deep run? Which 4A team will blink first - Sterling or Sierra? What's in the drinking water at Valor Christian? And who among these incredible teams are the dark horses? We've got plenty to keep an eye of, but we'll be honest - a few losses to shake up the mix wouldn't hurt, either.

1. Highlands Ranch (16-0) Last week: No. 1

2. Sterling (15-0) Last week: No. 3

3. Denver East (12-3) Last week: No. 2

How good are the teams in our POWERADE Colorado Weekly Rankings? Consider this - not one team in our top 10 lost a single game this week. That bodes well for teams like Highlands Ranch, Denver East and Sterling. But squads like Lewis-Palmer, Sierra, Valor Christian and Broomfield, who sorely deserve to move up, will have to wait for now. We're still waiting for a big shakeup, but the way these teams are playing, it might be a while. Want another impressive stat from this week? Not one team dropped off our bubble, either. It's shaping up to be a competitive year.

1. Highlands Ranch (14-0) Last week: No. 1

2. Denver East (10-3) Last week: No. 2

3. Sterling (13-0) Last week: No. 3

To get a glimpse of how good our teams in the POWERADE Colorado Weekly Rankings are, take a look at our squads on the bubble. There's two undefeated teams and five other teams with just one loss. But that's how tough it is to crack the top 10. With very few losses among any of our top 10 teams this week, nobody's dropped out, meaning those bubble teams need to be patient - and keep winning - in order for their chance at a top 10 spot. The season is only at its halfway point. There's plenty of time left.

1. Highlands Ranch (12-0) Last week: No. 1

2. Denver East (9-3) Last week: No. 2

3. Sterling (10-0) Last week: No. 3

We knew Highlands Ranch was going to be good this season, but head coach Bob Caton's charges have been nothing short of extraordinary so far this season, jumping out to a perfect 10-0 mark and taking the top spot from Denver East in this week's POWERADE Colorado Weekly Rankings. Seniors Austin Haldorson and Brett Brady have led the Falcons this season, and it's looking like it could take a lot to unseat the team from the top spot.

1. Highlands Ranch (10-0) Last week: No. 2

2. Denver East (8-3) Last week: No. 1

3. Sterling (8-0) Last week: No. 3

Now that the 2011 slate of games is in the books, teams can turn their attention to the important contests looming in the early part of 2012. January can be a big month for teams looking for make a mark. And teams that got off to slow starts, whether it be due to injuries, tough out-of-state competition or just lackluster performance, will be ready to turn it around. There wasn't much change this week in Colorado, with Denver East still holding down the top spot in our rankings and nobody dropping out. We'll see if that continues.

1. Denver East (8-2) Last week: No. 1

2. Highlands Ranch (9-0) Last week: No. 2

3. Sterling (6-0) Last week: No. 3

The top two teams are still intact, but the big story is the unbeaten start for Highlands Ranch. The unbeaten Falcons are led by Austin Haldorson, a stellar big man averaging 18.9 points per contest. Denver East remains supremely talented but has two losses now this season. Also joining the group are two unbeatens - Sierra and Valor Christian - while hot-shooting ThunderRidge is poised to gain ground over the next few weeks.

2. Highlands Ranch (9-0) Last week: 2

While Denver East held steady this week, it was Highlands Ranch that made a big move this week following its 4-0 start. Chaparral has also had a good opening to its season and is expected to be a contender, but news Tuesday that leading scorer and BYU recruit Cory Calvert could be out for 4-6 weeks with a fractured wrist has to be disheartening for Wolverines fans.

1. Denver East (2-0)

2. Highlands Ranch (4-0)

Denver East, one of the top teams in last year's 5A state tournament, tops the list of the POWERADE Colorado Basketball Weekly Rankings for this season.

East, led by stellar guard Dominique Collier, posted a 19-4 record last winter and earned a top seed in the state tournament. But the Angels fell in the state quarterfinals to Boulder. This year's team, however, is poised to make an even deeper run in what is Collier's sophomore season.

1. Denver East
2. Chaparral
3. Regis Jesuit
