Last week produced very different results for Trumbull and Darien, and now the two teams are meeting in what could be an important regular-season test. No. 5 Darien is coming off a tight win over Danbury, while Trumbull was shocked by Greenwich, 36-12. It was a disappointing performance for Trumbull, which entered the game at No. 6 in the Connecticut POWERADE state rankings. But a win this week could turn those negative vibes into something very positive.

The Game:
Trumbull at No. 5 Darien
Saturday, 2 p.m.

The Players:
Trumbull —Senior QB Brendan Moore has missed the last two games with an injury, so sophomore Nick Roberts has started in his place. Roberts was effective in his first game (three TD passes against Ludlowe), but the offense really stalled last week in a loss to Greenwich. The Golden Eagles will likely lean on senior FB Don Cherry, one of the state's toughest inside runners.

Darien — Offenses don't come more balanced than Darien's, which is averaging about 165 passing yards per game and 162 rushing yards per game. But when the Blue Wave get near the end zone, they like to put the ball in the air. Junior QB Henry Baldwin has thrown nine touchdown passes to seven different receivers, so there's really no one player to key on in the red zone. Junior RB Peter Gesualdi has four rushing TDs and two TD catches on the season.

The Stakes:
While Darien is just trying to keep the momentum going after last week's exciting win, Trumbull desperately wants to forget about the pounding it received from Greenwich. And this is a revenge game for Trumbull, which lost to Darien in last year's FCIAC final before advancing to the Class LL title game.

The Prediction:
After turning the ball over too much and being routed last week, look for the Golden Eagles to try to establish the run early and play it safe, but I think Darien's defense is too talented. They'll eat up Trumbull's conservative attack and not look back.
DARIEN 26, TRUMBULL 16
