An assistant coach for the Staples (Westport, Conn.) freshman football team has been arrested on charges that he gave players the password to a pornographic website.

Michael Pickering was taken into custody on Thursday and charged with three counts of risk of injury to a minor.

A Staples student overheard freshman players discussing the situation and reported it to school administrators. The board of education then contacted Westport police, who investigated and arrested Pickering. The Staples administration declined to comment when contacted by ESPNHS on Friday morning.

Westport police told ESPNHS that Pickering has since been released on $50,000 bond. A court date has been set for Nov. 28.

The Staples varsity football team is currently 8-0 and ranked No. 10 in the POWERADE state rankings. The Wreckers’ next game is a Thanksgiving Day matchup against Greenwich (Greenwich, Conn.).
