Football rankings: Championship Week

December, 5, 2011
There's just one week left in football season, and if Championship Week is anything like this past week, it's going to be exciting. Masuk, the team that opened the season at No. 1 in the POWERADE state rankings, was defeated by Daniel Hand in the Class L semifinals. That left an opening at the top of the rankings, and Xavier filled it by stomping Norwalk, 55-14, in the Class LL semis.

That sets up a meeting between No. 1 Xavier (12-0) and No. 4 Staples (11-0) in the LL championship game. No. 2 Daniel Hand (12-0) will battle for the Class L title against No. 5 New Canaan (10-1). No. 3 Ansonia will take on Ledyard in the Class M game, and Holy Cross will meet Cromwell for the Class S title.
