After winning the Class 4A state meet and leading his school to a team title this past fall, Andres Arroyo of Colonial has been named Gatorade Runner of the Year for Florida. Arroyo, who won his league, district and regional meets before capturing the state crown, is a 5-foot-8 junior who also plays baseball for the Grenadiers.
His coach is quoted in the official Gatorade release:
“Andres had an amazing breakout season as a sophomore and just kept it going this year,” said Colonial head coach Rene Plasencia. “He’s an extremely hard worker and very dedicated. He became smarter about his races this year. He would actually study film on people he was racing against and listen to their interviews to get an edge.”
