Florida football teams continue to take their show on the road. Tonight Manatee heads north to face Good Counsel (Olney, Md.) at 7:30 p.m. The Hurricanes went 13-1 last year and are ranked No. 8 nationally in the POWERADE FAB 50 ESPNHS Team Rankings, No. 3 in the state. But don't expect Good Counsel to roll out the welcome mat. The Falcons are, in the words of my esteemed (august?) colleague David Auguste, "littered with talent and have lofty expectations after earning the No. 19 ranking (this week) in the POWERADE FAB 50." Auguste breaks down the matchup over on the Greater D.C. blog, starting with Good Counsel star Stefon Diggs:
Diggs has offers from just about every BCS program you can think of. He hopes to get off to a fast start this year after ending his junior year with a three-TD performance in the WCAC title game. In the running game, Wes Brown has a pair of stud blockers in front of him in Michael Madaras and Ryan Watson. There are plenty of difference-makers on defense with DL Rod Chungong looking to wreak havoc and corral Manatee RBs Anthony Lauro and Leon Allen.
Manatee QB Cord Sandberg orchestrates Manatee's pro-style attack and threw for nearly 3,000 yards and 25 scores last year. Diggs will need to make some plays in the secondary to offset this explosive attack.
Dave picked Good Counsel, 28-24. I gotta go with Manatee, if only because I've seen what its nuanced attack can do. Who you got? Let us know in the comments.
