Lots of good high school football games in Florida this weekend, but none bigger than the matchup between St. Thomas Aquinas (Fort Lauderdale), the nation's No. 2 team in the POWERADE FAB 50 ESPNHS Team Rankings, and De La Salle (Concord, Calif.), the No. 3 team in the land. The game will air tonight at 7 p.m. on ESPN2, and we've got the lowdown on both teams in this clash of the titans — or more accurately, the Raiders and Spartans.
Aquinas has won the POWERADE FAB 5o national championship two out of the last three years, and its players (and coaches) are dedicated to carrying on the school's traditions. Corey Long has selected the program's top 15 players of all time, a list that includes former Raiders like Hall of Famer Michael Irvin.
De La Salle is comparable in many ways — a powerhouse school steeped in tradition. Indeed, it could be argued that DLS is the most successful program in high school football history. Here's STA vs. DLS, by the numbers. The current crop of Spartans has a workout regimen that's no joke. For a breakdown on how these schools match up, click here. And be sure to tune in tonight at 7 for what should be a great game.
